What is the digital Irish1Card for Android?

Irish1Card for Android is an effort from the Irish1Card office where your Android phone can do all of the things your Irish1Card can. Anywhere you can swipe a card, you will be able to use your Digital Irish1Card.

What do I need to get started?

You will need an Android device with the following:

How do I get my digital Irish1Card on my Android device?
  1. Ensure you have an approved photo on file. If you are not sure if you have an approved photo, contact the Campus Card office at idcard@nd.edu.
  2. On your supported device, download the GET Mobile app from the Google Play Store.
  3. Search All Institutions for the University of Notre Dame and Select
  4. Log in using your Notre Dame Okta credentials.
  5. Select the Add to Google Wallet button.
  6. Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  7. Your Irish1Card will now be provisioned to your device. Do not delete the GET app. If you delete the app, your Irish1Card will be removed as well.
I am not having success adding my Irish1Card to my Google Wallet. Who can help me?

How do I access my digital Irish1Card on my Android device?

To access your Irish1Card after you add it to Google Wallet:

  1. Open the Google Wallet app.
  2. At the bottom, tap Passes.
  3. Tap your Irish1Card.

You can also find your Irish1Card in your device settings. Tap Settings, Android Settings, Google, Settings for Google apps, then Google Wallet.

How do I use my digital Irish1Card on my Android devices?

To access your Irish1Card,

  • Your device does not need to be unlocked, but the screen should be awake.
  • Ensure NFC is turned on by going to your device’s Settings.
    • Android devices can vary in the placement of the NFC antenna.
  • Tap the top of the phone to the reader.
    • If this does not work, tap the back body of the phone to the reader.
  • Some devices require the user to log in to the GET Mobile app once daily to utilize their Irish1Card.
What Android devices are supported?

All Android phones that run Lollipop (5.1) or higher and are NFC capable. Android watches are not currently supported. You cannot have a digital Irish1card on both an Android and an Apple device.

How many devices can I use my digital Irish1Card on?

You can use your digital Irish1Card via Google Wallet on one Android phone device using the same credentials.

Do I have to turn in my physical Irish1Card when I activate my digital Irish1Card?

No, your current card will be deactivated when you enable the digital Irish1Card. It is recommended to keep it in a safe place, but it does not need to be turned in.

Can I reactivate my plastic card?

It is possible to reactivate your plastic Irish1Card.

If your plastic Irish1Card is expired, please bring the expired card to the Irish1Card Office to create a new one. Business hours are Monday - Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm.

For cards that are not expired, contact the Irish1Card Office to reactivate your plastic Irish1Card. You do not need to visit the office, but you will want to coordinate removal from your device so no access is lost.

Is this just for students?

Faculty, staff, and students are eligible as long as they meet all device and software requirements. Affiliates, emeritus, spouses, and retirees are not eligible for a digital Irish1Card.

Is a photo required?

Yes, an approved photo is required for eligibility.

Does my device need to be awake to use the digital Irish1Card?

By default, your Irish1Card can be used without unlocking your phone, but the phone must be powered on and “awake” (display active).

You can change this setting by turning on “require device unlock for use.“ This allows your Irish1Card to be used only when the phone is unlocked by accessing your Irish1Card in the Google Pay Wallet.

What if I have a passcode on my phone, will I have to enter it every time?

f you have not enabled the “require device unlock for use” setting, you do not need to authenticate via passcode, fingerprint, etc. 

How can I view my NDID number?

To view your NDID number, open and log into the Google Wallet. Tap on the card, and scroll down to see the Campus ID number, this is your NDID

Can I view my meal plan, Domer Dollar, and Print Quota balances?

These balances are not visible directly on your digital Irish1Card if you are using it on an Android device, but can be viewed in the GET Mobile app.

Is my digital Irish1Card considered an official University ID?

Yes, you can present your digital Irish1Card anywhere you use your Irish1Card now including Transpo Bus rides or bookstore discounts.

I have added the digital Irish1Card to my Android device, but it is not working.

Please try the following:

  • Ensure you are presenting your digital Irish1Card properly to the reader —straight up and down typically works best.
    If you are presenting your digital Irish1Card and the reader is not reacting, open the GET Mobile app.
  • After logging into GET Mobile, try to present your digital Irish1Card to the reader again. Note: Some devices require the user to log in to the GET Mobile app once daily to utilize the Irish1Card.
  • Ensure you have properly provisioned the digital ID. In the GET mobile app, you should see the status of your Irish1Card as ‘ID added to Google Wallet’, otherwise, you should see ‘Add to Google Wallet’.
  • Some systems can take up to 24 hours to receive the new credentials when an Irish1Card is configured, you may need to wait for those updates to finish.

How do I transfer my digital Irish1Card if I get a new device?

Remove your Irish1Card from your old device. Once you have completed this, you will simply choose your new mobile ecosystem and repeat the process of provisioning through the GET app on your new device.

What happens if I lose my Android device? If I find it afterward?

During Irish1Card Office hours (Monday - Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm) contact the Irish1Card office at (574) 631-7814 to notify us to deactivate the card in the Wallet for that device.

Can I use my Irish1Card if my Android device has a dead battery?

You will need to ensure your phone is charged in order to utilize your digital Irish1Card.

Can I use the Irish1Card without a cellular signal?

Your digital Irish1Card can be used even if the Android device does not have network connectivity as your Irish1Card is stored on your device.

Who can assist if my GET app does not work for building/dorm access?

For assistance with building/dorm access issues, Irish1Card Office at (574) 631-7814 or email idcard@nd.edu. Business hours are Monday - Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm.

For an after-hours temporary access card (Residence Hall access only), please visit Notre Dame Security Police located in Hammes Mowbray Hall.

Does it cost anything?

There is no cost to use your Irish1Card on Android.

Will it work with off-campus merchants?

Yes, you can use your Irish1Card on Android at off-campus merchants where your Irish1Card and Domer Dollars are accepted.
